Chapter Seven

Dominic stared down at the wonder before him. He had been watching her sleep for an hour. She looked so peaceful nestled among the covers of her bed. Dark purple sheets and a comforter surrounded her. As soon as she’d fallen into a deep sleep, he’d eased her onto her back and slowly pulled the sheet down to expose her breasts.

He would never tire of staring at her naked breasts. Her nipples were semi-stiff from earlier. They were surrounded by the gentle abrasions of his beard, the perfect amount of kink.

After taking her on the living room floor, he had moved her to the kitchen and fixed them both a quick sandwich. They were starving. He didn’t mention the police or her ex or the violence or threats again that evening.

He also didn’t mention all the gut-wrenching information she’d shared with him that morning. She had been through so much and had come out so strong from it. Did she realize that? It was her strength that made it possible for her to submit to him so gloriously.

After she’d gone to work, he’d called his parents and spoken to them for over an hour. How long had it been since he did something like that? He had no idea. He spoke to them nearly every week, but he rarely gave them so much of his undivided attention. He was pretty sure he heard his mother sniffling back tears as he shared the latest baseball stories with them. He didn’t mention Lily yet. It was too soon. But he’d learned a lesson from her about how fragile life was, and he wouldn’t squander that gift. He loved his parents, and he would make sure they knew it more often.

Now it was after midnight, and he couldn’t rest. Not because he and Lily had unresolved problems but because he needed to stare at her. She was like a drug. And he was an addict.

Forcing himself to relax, he lowered his head to the pillow next to her, settled his arm across her belly, and closed his eyes. Sleep was a long time coming. Listening to her breathing was a beautiful experience.

He was in so much trouble. For the first time in his life, he wanted something so badly he might spin the table and beg for it. But he wasn’t completely convinced she would agree.

They were enjoying themselves, but did she think it was all sex? It might seem that way to her. She hadn’t given him any indication she might agree to visit him in Jupiter for the next month, either. He needed those six weeks to continue wooing her before the regular season started.

Baseball was one of the worst sports for maintaining relationships. He would play one hundred sixty-two regular season games. Eighty-one of those would be out of town. That was nearly every night. Any new relationship was often doomed. Especially if the woman in question wasn’t particularly a fan of baseball.

He had to make her see his way somehow in the next few days.
